My air compressor is leaking air. While it is running, I am not sure if I am hearing the air leaking or not, but when I shut down my air compressor I can certainly hear the air leaking from the pressure switch. Is my pressure switch bad? There is a small valve on the side of the pressure switch, can that be leaking? The air will continue to leak for along time, not just a moment or second like I normally experience. It will leak for along time.

Tim, this one may be easy! I don’t believe your pressure switch is bad. The problem you are describing is most likely your check valve. Inspect the tank plumbing connection points and review against your parts illustration to locate the check valve. The check valve is always threaded into the tank and the air line coming from the pump is always threaded into the check valve. Part of the check valve inserts into the tank and the appearance from the outside will look just like another fitting or bushing threaded into the tank. Usually there are only about 3 or 4 ports in the tank. Check valve port, drain port, air outlet, and maybe a port for a pressure gauge. See what you have, again look at your parts illustration they clearly show all parts on an air compressor. Air compressors use check valves to keep air in the tank. A check valve is a “one way” valve. Air will only flow through the check valve in the direction going into the tank. All air the compressor pumped went into the tank and the check valve keeps it there until you need the air for your use. Read more about this subject on this page lnik http://www.arkansas-ope.com/AC_CHECK_VALVES.html Be careful if you decide to start opening air lines or remving the check valve, DRAIN THE TANK COMPLETELY FIRST! I hope this helped.
